Born on 2 June 1968 in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, Antony Sturgiss is the son of a Lancastrian mother and a Scottish naval petty officer assigned to the nuclear submarine initiative of the cold war.
Some time after attaining a BA (Hons) degree as a painter/printmaker, he borrowed a friend’s arc welder and started constructing sculpture from found objects. He had unwittingly become a “direct metal sculptor.” To his surprise and disbelief, people started buying these creations and the faint tendrils of his current career came into being.
This process and his abilities were fostered and encouraged, in part, by his very good friend and fellow sculptor, but primarily by his then girlfriend and now beautiful wife.
Antony is now a renowned metal sculptor who exhibits his work around the UK. His productions are detailed and unique, ranging from small objects for the home, office or garden patio to large structures designed to be a major feature within a larger garden, office atrium, company grounds, hotel, etc.
Antony works closely with his clients to produce each piece either from a stock catalogue or bespoke pieces to match the overall desired effect and impact. |
